WHEN WORLD WAR TWO ENDED, I WAS ALMOST FOUR YEARS OLD. I REMEMBER THAT DAY.
"OH', SURE YOU DID! THAT'S A BUNCH
OF B.S." I CAN JUST HEAR WHAT SOME PEOPLE ARE SAYING. "YOU DIDN'T REALLY REMEMBER IT--YOU WERE TOO
YOUNG." NOW, TO ALL WHO BELIEVE I AM FABRICATING THIS TALE, LET ME SIMPLY SAY THAT I REMEMBER THE DAY THE
SECOND WAR ENDED BECAUSE I OPENED UP THE NEWSPAPER AND SAW MY GRANDMOTHER'S FACE EXPRESS MORE JOY THAN I HAD EVER SEEN BEFORE.

YES, IT WAS MY CHORE
AS A LITTLE GUY TO GO OUT AND GET THE PAPER EVERY DAY AND TAKE IT INSIDE TO MY GRANDMOTHER. WHEN I OPENED
THE NEWSPAPER FOR HER, I SAW THIS EXPRESSION OF TOTAL JOY ON GRANDMOTHERS FACE; I HEARD HER SHOUTING
PRAISES; I KNEW SOMETHING WONDERFUL. I RECALL ASKING HER WHAT WAS SHE SO HAPPY ABOUT. "THE WAR IS FINALLY
OVER," SHE SAID AS TEARS RAN DOWN HER CHEEKS. "THE WAR IS FINALLY OVER." SO, IN AN INDIRECT WAY, I DID FIND OUT
ABOUT THE END OF THE WAR BY SEEING IT IN THE NEWSPAPER. FROM THEN ON, DURING THE REST OF THAT DECADE, I
KNEW IT WAS A SPECIAL TIME AS MORE AND MORE MEN IN ARMY AND NAVY UNIFORMS BEGAN SHOWING UP AT THE
GROCERY STORE AND POST OFFICE, ALL THE PLACES I USED TO GO WITH MY AUNT. SO, I HAVE SOME OLD PHOTOS FROM
THE FAMILY ALBUM OF RELATIVES AND FREINDS OF THE FAMILY DURING THIS HISTORIC TIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY. THIS
LOOKS LIKE A GREAT GROUP TO SHARE THESE PHOTOS, SNAPSHOTS, REALLY. MEMORIES. IT IS SAD THAT MOST OF THOSE
PICTURED ARE NO LONGER ALIVE TO ENJOY THE FREEDOM AND HAPPINESS THEY FOUGHT TO PRESERVE FOR AMERICA AND
THOSE NATIONS WHO WERE OPPRESED BY EVIL AND SELFISH MEN WHOSE ONLY GOAL WAS POWER. THANK GOD FOR EACH
AND EVERY ONE OF THE COURAGEOUS MEN AND WOMEN WHO HELPED US GET THROUGH THAT PERIOD OF TIME WE
REMEMBER AS THE 1940S. ROBERT L. HUFFSTUTTER
