Homeless in Beijing subway

Yes, it appears that China has a terrible "homeless" problem. What is this world coming too?

One might compare this image with photos of the homeless in USA subways and other areas. I think the entire issue boils down to "freedom to sleep where one can find a place" and there are most likely laws against sleeping in subways that are enforced in China.

One can look at this issue in several ways; either a society has regulations about where people can congregate and lay around in public places and spaces, or a society has no restrictions, thus letting whomever wants to camp out in public places, litter, urinate and deficate throughout the area, making the area unhealthy, unsafe and a site that shows there are no provisions made for the homeless.

Part of this can simply be defined by "character." To summarize, Beijing officials do not want "characters" hangin' out in the public subways. I get the picture clearly. And I support regulations that are enforced to keep public spaces such as subway stations free of a transient population that becomes a public nuisance.

Parks, in my opinion, should be free space for those who need sleeping and and camping space. The ideal solution, of course, would be for the government to build homes for those who are homeless, thus reducing the homeless problem to zero. Yes, a zero tolerance for homelessness. This, of course, would require more money from the Federal budget. This, then should become another entitlement issue, another partisan issue. In the meantime, one homeless man, or perhaps one "sleepy" man is taking time out in a Beijing subway.

Let me tell you the story behind this one. I noticed you took it back in March of 2008. To be quite honest, I am surprised it was still standing. But if you took the photo, you should know.

There's a long story that goes along with this old home. Before I give away too many details, I need to know if you happened to see anyone with metal detectors in the area. Did you see any fresh holes where people had been digging.

If you saw signs of digging, etc, they were probably digging a drain for the water that floods the road in heavy rains.

If you still have the details on this location, I might suggest that you go there ASAP with your metal detectors. According to the old legend, there was a shipment of gold that was headed for the mint. The old stage road that is now the closest State highway, was once called the Federal Road because it led directly to the mint.

Anyway, the old James gang, not the one in Missouri, but the cousin of the notorious Frank James, rented a general store not too far from here and knew the schedule of the loads, etc. Anyway, as the story goes, he had made arrangements with the State militia who were supposed to be escorting the load (four wagons full of gold nuggets and ore).

The Powerhouse of the Universe - The Flow of Time/The Flow of Space
Everything around us, including all of us, are made up of the molecules and atoms that originated from the very beginnings of time. We are born in a "bubble" of the space/time continuum where we see the physical substance around us as a "constant" and Time we see as "streaming by" - But time doesn't quite exist as we perceive it.
There is a realm, a dimension that exists, where our "physical substance" can be perceived as a "ghostly flow" and time is encompassed as a whole.
God would exist in such a dimension: "I am alpha and omega" the beginning and the end.
Keeping in mind that Matter can not be created nor destroyed; neither can Space or Time be destroyed. It can be crumpled to near nothingness, expanded and bent, perhaps even changed, but it can not be destroyed. Nor can Time and Space be separated, or understood separately from the other; because, as Einstein theorized, Time and Space are two aspects of the very same thing.
There's more to Time than just the "here-and-now"... indeed, there are particles of truth to the final lyrics of the song: "In The Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus)" by Zager and Evens:

"Through the eternal night,
The twinkling of starlight,
So very far away...
Maybe it's only yesterday."

Richard, you have opened up a Pandora's box for the type of subject matter only a few of us enjoy examining in detail and theory. Your perception on time and space are much more complex than the comments you made, thus an extensive exchange of ideas and information about this subject should be an interesting and joyful experience...as time goes by.

Let me begin by stating that since we are energy and energy cannot be destroyed but can be converted to different states, I am hoping that once this energy in my body is changed from flesh, it will be transitioned into the energy that will allow me to see what is really in the space we can only begin to glimpse through super telescopes.

INTERESTING PIECE...but I am not following you on the immoral aspect of the Roswell story. Is there a theory that I have not heard? The only thing I can possibly imagine that would fit into the scenario of it being racist is that possibly the aliens were coming to earth on a mission of peace and were shot down by P-38s and were executed by the Army Air Corps personnel, or the red-haired stenographer, because they were ''different.'' I have always enjoyed the story and as far as spirituality, I believe that there are other entities out there, all created by the intelligent being I call the Creator of all Universes.

IF HEALTHCARE WITH A PUBLIC OPTION PASSES...............

It will become one of the most discriminating pieces of legislation ever penned since 1865. If American citizens and residents are going to be forced to pay into such a plan, it must be for all, and this includes all government employees including the President, the Congress and the Supreme Court. We shall all heal or suffer equally. This is an original quote, it's mine.

There should be no rationing or discrimination by age, race, immigration or citizenship status. That is to say, simply, there will be no favoritism in the despensing of medical care and treatment. This means that there will be no lists of who will get the transplant or the heart depending on needs by age, race, creed or political party. All Americans will be given a number that will not list their personal data. Healthcare will then be given by the draw, or a lottery to prevent special interests.

FOR THOSE WHO STILL HAVE MONEY AND WANT TO SEEK PRIVATE CARE, perhaps they will have the choice to purchase such care from American PHYSICIANS IF THEY ARE STILL PERMITTED TO PRACTICE PRIVATELY. IF NOT, THEN THE ILL WITH MONEY CAN FLY TO A NATION WHERE HEALTHCARE OF THE KIND GIVEN BY TOP MEDICAL FACILITIES IS AVAILABLE.

THIS IS HOW THE HEALTHCARE WITH THE PUBLIC OPTION SHOULD WORK. Yes, that means that those with the cash will still have the option of going to the head of the line if they find a line that takes cash. Will private healthcare be outlawed in the U.S.? Has anyone considered this? And how will this affect our military and those who receive care at the Veterans Administration Medical Care facilities? One can readily see the type of confusion and conflict such a program will create.

To solve these problems, HARRY AND NANCY GO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS to write, rewrite and erase. How does this make you feel? Do you feel like it is about time to opt out of such a program?

Incidentally, the child sitting on top of this revered classic is our daughter. Note the shadow person in the left corner, ready to dash to her instantaneous rescue if necessary.

This was the year of the model change for GM. We had purchased our first Buick Skylark in 1970, and a second Skylark only eighteen months later. When it caught fire one cold winter evening and was totaled by the insurance company, it was replaced with this new and neatly appointed Skylark with red interior and full power. I recall how much it appeared like a new toy to me.

Because I had been in the previous Skylark when it was totaled, looking at this photo makes me realize how fortunate I was that I did not burn with the auto. The steering wheel had melted, the mileage indicator was charred beyond accountability of the mileage, thus the "new" replacement. For some months thereafter, I had some serious lung problems. I also kept my vow not to leave the engine running when I felt like I needed to sleep in my vehicle for the night after a tad bit too much partying.

This was one of a number of miracles that happened, miracles I account as Divine. By all accounts, using that television program as a line, "I should have been dead by now." If but by the grace of God. There were five other seperate incidents that were equally, if not more, eerie, where my life had been in serious danger and I was whisked out of danger if by an Angel or the hand of the Divine.

Sometime I will write about those times, but then I had most likely leave them sealed in the vat of memory. Let me simply say that in all case but one, there had been alcohol involved. I have said it many times before, " If I had my life to lead over, I would never have taken my first drink of beer one summer evening back in the 1940s while my Aunt Marietta was visiting and sat her can of beer down behind her lawn chair where I was playing cars. That's right, I will blame it on her, typical alcoholic rationale. No, not really. It was a child's curiosity to taste what the adults were drinking in those so attractive and shiny cans that seemed to make them laugh and be so merry.

Sometime I will write about those times, but then I had most likely leave them sealed in the vat of memory. Let me simply say that in all case but one, there had been alcohol involved. I have said it many times before, " If I had my life to lead over, I would never have taken my first drink of beer one summer evening back in the 1940s while my Aunt Marietta was visiting and sat her can of beer down behind her lawn chair where I was playing cars. That's right, I will blame it on her, typical alcoholic rationale. No, not really. It was a child's curiosity to taste what the adults were drinking in those so attractive and shiny cans that seemed to make them laugh and be so merry.

Despite any rumors that might be circulating about running as a candidate for President in the next election, I hereby refute such rumors, at least temporarily. Due to the lack of the multi-million dollar entrance fees required, I, like millions of other qualified and spirited Americans who are totally qualified to become President, will have to deny myself this desire to enter public service at this point in time.

If and when I should receive the financial backing required, I will weigh my options carefully, possibly making further comments on national public radio or network or cable television. Let me further state that there is not a shadow of doubt in my mind that I would make a great President and would take my oath to protect and preserve the Constitution with sincere reverence and respect.

If I had to announce a campaign platform within the next five minutes, I am prepared. My campaign would be founded on the fact that less government is the better government and that as a government our main priority is promoting more freedom among the ciizens rather than less freedom.

My promise not to try and control the masses would be based on my confidence that Americans have reached the level where they realize that one's mind will only grow brighter with increased freedoms that will challenge their abilities to become independent of government control.

PENGUIN PARK, KC LANDMARK FOR NEARLY 50 YEARS
In the 1970s, Penguin Park was one of the most popular parks in the northern sector of Kansas City, Missouri. It began with the landmark penguin and other attractions were added as the years rolled by. Four decades later, the crowd is elbow to elbow with children on the weekends. The recent population explosion in the area has made space to play a premium and parking spots scarce. However, the ice cream trucks are selling a record number of bomb pops. Solution to the space problem: Spend tax-payer money to enlarge the park to facilitate the booming population explosion. The park has a non-smoking policy, a policy I support because it is a children's recreation area. Restroom facilities and drinking fountains have been reconstructed, a positive aspect. Generally, the park is a harmonious blend of young children and offers parents opportunities to interact and communicate in a number of languages.

a beautiful car, inside and out..........most people in the 60s might have thought the name somewhat too tawdry or Franco cinematic; it might have been akin to naming it the Dodge Strumpette or Strumpete. Names do have considerable influence. Take the Edsel and the Henry J; add Kaiser and Frazier, funny and weird names. How the Lincoln became acceptable is something I have wondered about. There was a Franklin, but it is no more. There was never a Washington. As far as I know, there has never been a car named a Robert.

One notable bit of personal information related by President-elect Obama was the early morning reading lessons he enjoyed with his mother when he was in elementary school. It was a bit of information that might become an institution for children and parents to establish if they have ambitions for increasing their education. Although the requirements for becoming President are relatively simple, one thing is for certain: unless a man or woman has some superior intellect, their chances for being elected to this highest office in the land are slim to none.It was apparent from the day that Senator Obama announced his intention to become President that he was a very intelligent young man. Thus, in this photo, the chair is waiting for a future President to begin an early morning lesson. Thanks to the late mother of Present-elect Barack Obama for preparing her son to develop some exemplary study habits for a future time and place.

This is great...But it came a bit late. Had it been encluded in the original constitution, thousand of lives would have been saved and the hate that was borne by it omission might have been less intense. That is to say, it is almost unreal when one considers the founding fathers establishing a nation called a democracy and permitting slavery to exist. If one wonders why some people do not celebrate the 4th of july, think about this subject for awhile. This is one of the subjects that was not, unfortunately, taught in any detail in the u.S. Educational system.

The war against terror must continue. Those wanting to prosecute Bush and Cheney for their intelligence tactics are those I would not trust to lead my grandmother across a busy intersection; they are the ones I would suspect of pinching a sleeping baby just to hear it cry.

It is difficult for me to understand why there are Americans who are so hateful and spiteful that they want to prosecute Bush and Cheney for using whatever means were necessary to protect American lives.

These, my fellow Americans, are those who would sacrifice a city of 5,000,000 Americans in order to prove the point that waterboarding is "torture." Due to the current media blitz on the subject of waterboarding as a torture tactic, several enterprising individuals have decided to open a "waterboarding club." "It's kind of like the fight clubs that are springing up on the Eastern Seaboard," stated Ulrich, one of the owners who prefered to remain out of the limelight. "Dude, like some people think this kind of thing is like torture, you know what I mean? But it ain't that bad, no, not really. But like me and my partner here, Igor, wanted to see if it was all that gruelling. I mean, at first, sure we like thought we were going under, but we held our breath and tried to think of pleasant pictures, pin-up of bathing beauties and you know, hot cars and mansions, all the fun stuff, you know. Hey, like we came through it okay," he continued. His associate mentioned that he figured that the undercover agents had been around because one guy who was driving a black Suburban and wearing shades came in and axed us if we could like maybe do a slight boarding on his ex to find out if she was cheating on him and stuff like that, you know what I mean? And we said, 'hell no, man,' cause we are law-abiding. We ain't open yet cause we are waiting for an answer from the city. They axed what kind of business it was and we figured it was like a watersports club." The war against terror must continue. Those wanting to prosecute Bush and Cheney for their intelligence tactics are those I would not trust to lead my grandmother across a busy intersection; they are the ones I would suspect of pinching a sleeping baby just to hear it cry. It is difficult for me to understand why there are Americans who are so hateful and spiteful that they want to prosecute Bush and Cheney for using whatever means were necessary to protect American lives. These, my fellow Americans, are those who would sacrifice a city of 5,000,000 Americans in order to prove the point that waterboarding is "torture." Am I also to understand that these are the people who would let terrorists behead their husbands and wives and their children in order to spare a terrosit from having to suffer the fear of drowning?

The end of President Bush's final term is quickly approaching. Less than two months remain until he will hand over his White House keys to Barack Obama, but we cannot let him leave office without resolving one very important issue: he must commute the prison sentences of convicted U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean!

Not only do we now know that the agents did not get a fair trial and that the prosecution's case was based on the word and testimony of an illegal drug smuggler, but the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld their mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentences for "discharging a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence." This law, Section 924(c) of the U.S. Code, has always been interpreted to apply to criminals, not law enforcement officers engaged in their official duties. Every U.S. citizen has the right to self defense, especially those serving in harm's way.

The severity of these charges and the harshness of the punishment are totally disproportionate to the violation in question. Even the illegal drug smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, was sentenced to less prison time than our fellow American border guards! Most recently, on November 14, 2008, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, whose office prosecuted the border guards, stated "I have always said that the punishment in this case was harsh."

Although the families of agents Ramos and Compean plan to appeal their cases to the U.S. Supreme Court, there is no guarantee that the High Court will agree to hear it. There is the possibility that the Fifth Circuit may rehear the case in front of all 17 judges at a later date, but the fastest and most effective way to free the border guards would be with a presidential pardon or a commutation of their prison sentences to time served.

It has been said that a pardon or commutation will not be considered until all legal avenues have been exhausted, but the President has the presidential prerogative, as granted to him in Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, to pardon or commute the sentences of any convicted person for any reason or for no reason. The time to act is now!

IT'S TOO LATE TO LOOK FOR VAN GOGH'S EAR...

You know it's time to start painting again when you begin seeing images with black lines around them, waiting for you to add color to make them complete. Is it a primal desire or only a wish we were young enough to get out the crayons and start in on an already created image in outline form of a mouse or a pirate, making the hat a solid purple and the mouse a bright pink instead of the standard dull gray or brown? Yes. Yes to all of the questions about art. Art is part of our primordial psyche. If we were created in the image of our Creator, is it not only natural for us to want to create an image of something our Creator created? There, now that I have explained and outlined the complete history of portrait painting, landscape painting, nature painting and other related scapes, there will be someone who will ask about cartoons or religious scapes. That's the way it was in Art 101 then...and it remains the same today. Professor Knowitall, where do cartoons fit into this concise little Judeao-Christian history of art you are disseminating?
"Shut up and go sit at the back of the class," I might think, but of course I won't. It is a legitimate question that can be answered with brevity. "It is called humor, Aaron, okay? You know, you probably watched enough cartoons on Saturday mornings between the ages of two to twelve, however, that you might have used up all your humor."
Not a good thing to say to anyone, really, but do we ever run out of humor? Can we laugh too much? As I ponder this question, I look at the headlines and realize in an instant that we are living in a time that will not be remembered as the "laughing generation." And that's too bad. Bombs are not funny; wars are not funny. Crimes are absent of all humor. Maybe we need to laugh more. We might choose to laugh at the fuss the government is making over Washington's madam of erotic fantasy escorts service. If the men who used those services needed to get their minds off of demolition through aircraft collisions into buildings and mass murder, perhaps there was a shortage of escorts.building blown up by those who had no sense of humor; maybe these men and women who dialed up a fantasy just needed to escape for awhile. Sure, they could have prayed, but not everyone finds solace in prayer; sure, they could have gone to a comedy, but maybe they needed something more intense than light chuckles. So, why is the government so determined to go after the madam when they could be exerting the same energy in pursuing mad men? How did I get from coloring books to alleged prostitution in so short a time? I am a victim of my own mind, absorbing too much of the world around me. I should have been born in the mid 1800s, lived on the left bank and been a friend of Vincent Van Gogh. But he was rumored to have been a madman, so art might not be the subject to study afterall.

Total brilliance. I do really like the elements; I can almost feel the rust peeling and breaking into smaller particles and pieces in the palm of my hand as my fingertips research these aged minerals in their state of decay. The odor of minerals is strong, not unpleasant, but intense enough to make me aware of their past. Summarily, one unique and thoughtful photograph in a genre of your own creation.
